The Robert F. Byrnes Russian and East European Institute (REEI) now offers a 4+1 Pathways program that enables qualifying students to engage in simultaneous pursuit of a B.A./B.S. in the College of Arts and Sciences and the REEI M.A. degree. Through this distinctive and integrated program, undergraduate students can earn a Master of Arts degree in Russian and East European Studies in only one year beyond the traditional four-year undergraduate degree. Like other 4+1 Pathway programs within the College of Arts and Sciences at IU, it enables undergraduate students to take graduate courses under the flat undergraduate tuition rate, providing them with more financial flexibility. The program is especially geared towards IU students who wish to complement and build upon the more generalized knowledge they have developed throughout the course of their undergraduate career. It is open to all majors within the College of Arts and Sciences.
“REEI is delighted to offer this accelerated pathway to the MA degree for IU undergraduate students who want to take a deep dive into the politics, cultures, and languages of Russia and Eastern Europe,” REEI Director Sarah Phillips stated. “Students pursuing the 4+1 pathway in REEI will maximize their time at IU and get on the fast track to exciting careers in government, business, or the non-profit and development sectors.” The Pathways program also prepares future graduates for professional research and makes them more competitive for further graduate study.
